3224 - Steelcon Fabrication Inc. - Estimator, Design Build
Steelcon Fabrication Inc. has an opening for a Design Build Estimator, based in Brampton Ontario and reporting to the PMO Manager. The Design Build Estimator will calculate and prepare bid and proposal submissions on all contracts to successfully secure contracts that achieve acceptable financial returns.
As a Design Build Estimator, you will contribute to our team by:
Take ownership of all estimates and is accountable for the work scope.
Ability to review and put together change summaries, identify, and differentiate changes between two sets of drawings to present to customer.
Identify special requirements in technical specifications, and requirements for weather protection, cranes, hoists, temporary facilities, special coatings, and services.
Identify productivity impacts: weather, shifts, location, labor availability, site constraints, operating facility, etc.
Prepare final tender documents for submission to client to meet contract and tender closing deadline requirements.
Assist and organize conceptual quantity takeoffs provided by Engineers to price construction management and design-build pursuits.
Schedule scope review meetings with key trades during bid period and develops and maintains strong relationships with trade contractors for best price.
Prepare and put together cost summary sheets identifying costs of each element to form a final bid price.
Review and organize quantity, material, and labor takeoffs prepared from drafting's for drawings, specifications, and related documents.
Generate RFIs for review after reviewing specifications and drawings and submit to client to verify any discrepancies prior to closing a tender.
Complete final cost estimate, adding all labor, equipment, material data, pricing documentation, overhead, and profit margins, and produces a final tender submission for review and approval of chief estimator and district management.
Develop and maintains strong customer focused relationships with all stakeholders, specifically trade contractors for best price.
Attend site visits for pre-bid meeting walkthroughs to review existing site conditions to assist in the preparation of the bid.
Complete and submit tender forms and documents based on the requirements of instruction to bidders for specific tenders.
Liaison with suppliers to obtain competitive pricing on both steel and specialty items.

What you will bring to this role:
Postsecondary diploma or degree in related discipline or trade experience or equivalent.
Minimum 2 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating.
Gold Seal certification in estimating as asset.
Successfully led pursuits valued at up to $100 million in delivery model hard bid / lump sum, construction management / cost reimbursable / target price and/or design-build.
Experience with self-perform estimate and productivity understanding.
General construction knowledge; understands specifications, materials, and methods and procedures gained through site visits or on-site experience.
Strong knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity takeoff procedures, trade contractor procurement, pricing, and bid-closing procedures.
Resourceful and self-motivated with strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
Advanced verbal and written communication skills as an influencer with key stakeholders.
Advanced skills using Microsoft Office Suite and internal operations systems: scheduling and estimating software.
Able to read isometric, as built, and engineering drawings.
