FOCUS OF THIS SEMINAR:
2024 BUILDING CODE — IT'S A GAME CHANGER
Newest Requirement includes Radon Mitigation in New Construction
Effective January 1, 2025, the 2024 Ontario Building Code came into effect, with its grace period ending March 31, 2025. This update is a game changer. In addition to providing a summary of the key OBC changes, this presentation will address the prevalence of radon across Ontario and the newest requirement – Radon Gas Protection. Addressing the radon resistance requirements impacting all new construction and renovations across Ontario, this presentation will also focus on unraveling the industries’ perception of radon and its dangers.
In addition to highlighting the code requirements for radon control in residential and ICI buildings as they pertain to both the building envelope and ventilation, we will also dispel the myth that radon is “not a problem in this area”. While identifying the risks and liabilities to designers, builders and building authorities should radon control not be adequately addressed, we will explore design and control options.
